Athfest CD Release Party
8 p.m., Tasty World

Titans of Filth, Timber and Packway Handle Band will perform a free show to celebrate the release of the latest AthFest compilation. With a name like Titans Of Filth, you’d expect this band to play hard core or metal, but they are actually a indie folk act similar to the Silver Jews with hints of twee like Beat Happening. Their track “Our Impending Engagement” is included on the AthFest CD. Timber, a local folk rock band, contributed its song “Don’t Fail Me Now” to the compilation. Local bluegrass favorites The Packway Handle Band lent “Gets Me Every Time” to the CD. In addition to above tracks, the CD includes songs by Madeline, Hope For Agoldensummer and Dead Confederate, among other local favorites. For a full track listing, visit www.ghostmeat.com or www.athfest.com. - Trisha Klein

North Mississippi All StarsNorth Mississippi Allstars
9 p.m., Georgia Theatre

This blues trio, (Luther Dickinson on guitar and vocals, Cody Dickinson on drums and keyboards, and Chris Chew on bass), hails from the small town of Hernando, Miss., which borders Memphis. Their sound is informed by the legendary blues men of both Mississippi and Memphis fused with rock and roll and some jam band-style improvisation. Tickets are $15. - Trisha Klein

Iron Hero, Kuroma, Coral Castles
10 p.m., Caledonia Lounge

After taking a break after the release of its 2006 debut album, “Safe As Houses,” local band Iron Hero is back in action, playing shows and posting new songs on its MySpace page. Kuroma is the solo vehicle of Hank Sullivant, a former member of The Whigs and a touring member of MGMT. Chattanooga’s Coral Castles just released its debut EP, “the Corpse and the Cake,” a catchy mix of powerpop and classic rock that will appeal to fans of Billy Joel. Tickets are $6. - Trisha Klein
