Titans of Filth, North Elementary, Schooner
8:30 p.m., Flicker Theatre and Bar
With a name like Titans Of Filth, you’d expect this local band to play hard core or metal, but they actually are an indie folk act similar to the Silver Jews with hints of twee like Beat Happening. They’ll be joined by two bands from Chapel Hill, N.C., North Elementary and Schooner. Led by songwriter John Harrison, North Elementary is collaborative collective that plays indie rock influenced by the fuzzed out guitars of Dinosaur Jr. and the melodies of Mercury Rev. Schooner, which is composed of siblings Reid and Kathryn Johnson, Billy Alphin (The Rosebuds, Ashley Stove) and Maria Albani (Pleasant, Un Deux Trois), plays indie folk rock with hints of alt-country and psychedelia. - Trisha Klein
Dancer Vs. Politician, Jeffrey Bützer
10 p.m., 40 Watt
Athens meets Berlin as Dancer Vs. Politician and Jeffrey Bützer take on the 40 Watt. Led by Sanni Baumgärtner, Dancer Vs. Politician plays orchestral pop with the accordion, musical saw, viola and glockenspiel in addition to guitars, drums and bass. Whether she’s singing in English of German, Baumgärtner has a softly beautiful and enchanting voice. Bützer is a multi-instrumentalist who incorporates toy instruments into his act, giving his music a mesmerizing, gypsy-like sound. - Trisha Klein
