Via Audio a band sure to ’say something’

Via AudioJessica Martins, the lead singer of New York’s Via Audio (playing at Tasty World tonight), knows when to speak up. At one of indie rock band Spoon’s concerts, she spotted the band’s drummer, Jim Eno. After striking up a conversation, she mentioned her band and handed him a demo. Eno gave the CD a few listens on his own and then contacted the band, offering to produce their debut album. Released last September, “Say Something” has received critical acclaim from “Spin” and “Entertainment Weekly,” among others, and a glowing review from the influential music Web site, Pitchfork. Local act Little Francis plays bluesy roots music inspired by ’50s rock ‘n’ roll and church music. Local musician Light plays indie folk inspired by Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliott Smith and David Dondero. At the age of 19, Light already has released two albums, 2005’s “The Absent Parade” and 2007’s “The World Forgetting by the World Forgot.” Band of Annuals is a six-piece alt-country band from Salt Lake City with a warm sound supplied by a wurlitzer and pedal steel guitar. Eli Carlan Band

This classic rock trio from Commerce has been playing throughout North Georgia for 12 years. Consisting of Eli Carlan on lead and slide guitar, Steve Murray on bass and Mike Traynor on drums, the band’s sound incorporates elements of blues and jam band rock. - Trisha Klein
