Music, music and more music!

AthFestThe big weekend is here. The Athens Music and Arts Festival -- AthFest -- kicks off this afternoon at 5 with International Orange and will end Sunday evening with a performance by The Jesters, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary. And in between will be more music than you could ever hope to stuff into your ears.

One major change this year is the location of the outdoor stages. They're moving from one end of downtown to the other. The main stage is being constructed on West Washington Street at its intersection with Pulaski Street (outside the 40 Watt), and the secondary stage is going up at Washington and Hull streets.

If I remember correctly, one of the reasons AthFest was founded was to bring some business to downtown during the slower summer months, along with showcasing one of our greatest assets -- our music. But there's a reason it gets slow during this time of year (besides school being out). It's hot, and this weekend looks like it will be a scorcher. I hate to sound like a parent, but be sure to drink plenty of water, and sorry, but beer does not count as water (at least that's what my wife has pounded into my head).

Here are some links to get you informed and get you going. Have fun and be safe.
