An evening with Barbara Cue
An early rain and the threat of more to come forced the Sunflower Music Series inside last Tuesday evening, but honestly I thought it was more interesting picnicking indoors surrounded by tropical plants and air conditioning.
Clay Leverett played a solid set after a quick soundcheck, highlighted by "Radio Wave" (one of my Lona favorites), a song I didn't expect to hear without a band backing, but Leverett delivered a version alone with a six-string that may rival any I've heard with the rest of the band. The pics turned out terrible, but take my word he was there.
Barabara Cue's set featured special guest percussionist Sunny Ortiz from Widespread Panic and his presence gave the rural rock sound an extra, exotic layer this evening -- very apropos considering the setting. Here's hoping they add another concert to next year's series, and maybe even consider keeping one indoors as a change of pace. Here are a few photos...
