'It's a Wonderful Day'

Today was an excellent music day. I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy a few local CDs a month on the company's tab for the New Music section of this site. It's always a treat when they are CDs that I would have purchased anyway. And today was an example of that. I picked up the Drive-By Truckers' "Dirty South" and Macha's "Forget Tomorrow."

I hereby nominate Patterson Hood for Best Liner Notes in next year's Flagpole Awards (they should create that category). What a great story he tells. His final line: "Turn it up to 10 and rip off the knob." If you haven't got it yet, go forth and get it. It's the Truckers at their best. More next week.

As for Macha, the first time I saw them was at an outdoor festival downtown (I think it was the Human Rights Festival) a few years ago. I was mesmerized. Then we caught them a couple weeks later at the 40 Watt, and I was blown away. When you're standing front and center, they can take you away to another world. You take a deep breath between songs and go "whew!" On first listen of "Forget Tomorrow," Josh and company still have it. I sure hope they hit the stage again. Anyone have any info about that? Again, more next week.
