These guys are on fire

North Mississippi All StarsThe North Mississippi Allstars are without a doubt one of the finest live acts going. The last time I saw them it was a Friday afternoon in Tennessee and the show was being billed as a Hill Country Review. Before I knew it there were a couple dozen folks on stage of all stages, ages and creeds involved in a barnburner that included a washboard being plugged in, played, and then destroyed.

As for how all of this pertains to the local scene. Well, for starters our very own WSP's JoJo Hermann participated in the aforementioned Hill Country Review that hot June afternoon, alongside the likes of Chris Robinson and R.L. Burnside. And when the goods roll through town, it's my duty to let you know. NMAS will make the Georgia Theatre home this weekend during a two-night stand with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and The Rising Star Fife and Drum Band. Read about them in this Flagpole preview...

The live show I mentioned has recently been released on ATO records and my truck loves it. Rest assured, these bands are touring together for a reason. Expect cross-pollination all night. Could there be a JoJo sighting at the Theatre this weekend? Especially considering that Allstar brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson recently performed alongside Hermann this month during a (free) Smiling Assassins show in Nashville. Stranger things have happened.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
