We played a South Asian tsunami benefit tonight with Grogus and Acetate. Grogus played first, was a great set, what a phenomenal group of musicians!! Acetate was next, they had some cool melodic runs to their stuff, was a really loud, rockin set. Acetate is Dave Schools' (WSP) side-project power trio thing. We hit it last, played a setlist that everyone really digs, probably gonna try it out tomorrow in Charleston. Kevin Hyde from Grogus came out on a tune with us and made it extra funky, good to play with him again (he recorded with us on our studio album LIVE+REBEL+FUNK+LOVE). DJ NumberFive played with us as well, always good having the full ensemble!! ...

We got delayed getting out of town because Rod (our singer/keys man) got caught in traffic in Atlanta. We burned up the road though, got to the club in time no problem. We’ve got a lil buzz goin on in Chuck-town, and had a really involved, appreciative crowd for the evening. Both sets flew by, we did the setlist we developed last night in Athens and it was once again hot, hot like fire!! Stayed with some old friends of ours in their pimpy new pad on Folly Beach, went to a late night after-party out on the beach which was definitely some fun but coooooold, damn!! The ocean breeze was kickin, which is usually very welcome 9-10 months out of the year down there, but not tonight!! Anyway, gonna go eat some fresh seafood tomorrow, then head to Savannah, raced to the sunrise this morning talking music, politics, favorite Prince tunes ... beat down, gotta fall out.

Man, we love chillin in Charleston…good food, good people, good times!! Went and ate some great breakfast (at 2pm), went back to our friends place, washed up, did some laundry and headed out to Savannah around 6pm. Arrived around 8:30, ate some food, set up and sound checked by 10pm. We played a couple of different sets and thought we were done by 2am, but no!! The manager said we could push it to 3am and an after-hours crowd had just come in, so we came back and KILLED a third set with nothing but Prince and James Brown tunes, wrapped it up around 2:45am. Whew!! Went over to a “friend of a friend’s” place and passed out watching Napoleon Dynamite (funny ass, quirky movie) round 6am. Gonna be out in a few hours to head back to Athens, then Atlanta and the NFC championship game (Go Falcons!!).
