Electa Villain in Asheville

Electa VillainA postcard from the Electa Villain gang!

Saturday, January 15th Asheville, NC

Saturday night in Asheville was a BLAST! Asheville must be one of the single most beautiful places we have ever seen. Downtown reminds me a lot of Athens, but with more hills. Jay (our drummer) was happy to be back in his home town, and his old gang was representing in full force. This Saturday night was particuarly cold and windy, so I was a little weary of what the turnout would be like, but by the time we began, two thirds of the club was full. We were playing Stella Blue with Jay's good friends and Asheville locals, Stephanie's Id. The crowd was incredibly attentive, and we played an exceptionally high energy set which I think was due to a little bit of nervousness on our part. ...

The show was really well received, and I think we made quite a few Ash-Vegas fans. Stephanie's Id took the stage right after us and played one of the most powerful, innovative sets I have heard from a band in a long, long time. Stephanie's voice reminded me of Bjork or Beth Gibbons. When they pulled out the Portishead cover, I was sold. I cannot wait to do a show with these cats again.

The next morning we met with the whole Stephanie's Id crew for a brunch which mainly consisted of extra strong Bloody Mary's. The weather was too perfect which kept us from leaving in a rush (plus the light buzz we all had from breakfast). By the time we pulled back into Athens, we didn't want to stop. We could of easily kept on our way to play another city. I think the road is going to be something this band craves, but being back in Athens is always a pleasure, and we have to get ready to rock a show at Tasty World on Feb. 5 for "The Mental Health Benefit." Thanks Ash-Vegas, for an incredible weekend.
