February 22, 2005A little of this, a tad of that
Tonight, Denton, Texas' Centro-Matic, left, returns to Athens (with Lake City and Baptist Generals) for what promises to be a weekend-worthy bill on a weekday night. Last month, Centro-Matic set up shop for a residency of sorts at the 40 Watt. Read about that and them in this week's Flagpole. Oh yeah, Jason Isbell will be sitting in with the band during this evening's set. We Versus The Shark gets some love at Pitchfork here. ... Look out Paula Abdul ... Count Kellam was a celebrity judge for this years UGA Idol competition. No word on a winner yet, or if there were any William Hung wanna-be's auditioning. Claire Campbell keeps a fine tour journal, and this month's entries are especially ... interesting. Read about the filthiest hotel room in Georgia, being stood up on Valentine's Day, and a Vagina Monolouge cast that lacked a sense of humor here. By now you all know that Patterson Hood is a proud daddy. Ava Ruth Hood was born Feb. 7 at St. Mary's. Go to the man's Web site to listen to "Granddaddy" from Hood's forthcoming solo record. It's a little rough around the edges -- just the way we like it. Have a look at the 100 albums you should remove from your collection immediately here. Only one local band made the cut ... thankfully. Ralph Roddenberry Band has just set up home in cyberspace at MySpace and on aXis Music Portal. Keep up with the band and download music at either site. And in benefit concert news: AthenSound and the Georgia Theatre present Pickin' for a Cure, an evening of bluegrass and roots music to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, this Wednesday at the Georgia Theatre. The evening's lineup will include The Blackmon Brothers, 16 Tons, Duke and Dawn (featuring John Neff on pedal steel) and The Packway Handle Band. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. All proceeds go to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Country Music Marathon held in Nashville, TN, on April 30. Posted by David Eduardo at February 22, 2005 08:55 AM |
