March 08, 2005Casper & the Cookies in Japan
Greetings from Tokyo! We've spent six days in Japan so far, and it has truly been a life-changing experience. We've been treated so well. They won't even let us carry our own instruments! We've played two shows so far: one in Kyoto with a psych-folk duo and a noise rock band, and one in Tokyo between a power pop band and a ska band with a three piece horn section. So we've been on some diverse bills. One thing we've noticed is that shows are so expensive that the bands are pressured to play better than back home. Performances of the power pop & ska bands were FLAWLESS and involved the audience a lot more than most. On the other hand, the noise band was horribly sloppy, their lyrics consisted of an ENTIRE history book, yet they were incredibly entertaining. ... We've done a little sight-seeing, too. We visited Castle Nijo in Kyoto, the center of power during the Shogun era. The walls are made of paper and decorated with beautiful animal paintings, and the floors are designed to squeak to alert the guards of any intruders. Of course, the landscaping is unbelievable, too. They've pruned the pine trees so that all the needles face the sky! Tonight's show is at club Four Forty in the Shimo Kitazawa section of Tokyo where we've spent most of our time. We're first on a sold-out four-band bill starting at 8 p.m. sharp. We're just a sloppy freaky little pop band from Athens, GA. No pressure! Right now we're taking the subway to the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower to catch the Tokyo City View, which promises to be breathtaking. Casper & the Cookies send love to all our friends back in Athens! Wish us luck! See you soon! love, Jason, Kay, Ben & BP Posted by David Eduardo at March 8, 2005 08:07 AM |
