The return of Ravenstone

Ravenstone

If the return of Ravenstone does nothing else, at least it might wake folks up to the fact that there was a music scene in Athens before the B’s bopped in that house on Milledge Avenue and Stipe & Co. stumbled through the closet hole in that church.

Ravenstone, which on more than one occasion raised a ruckus on campus in the early '70s, has reunited. They are officially releasing "Back on the Rock" with a performance this Saturday at The Ritz (with Monkeys on Laptops and The Insashable Horns).

"Back on the Rocks" remains true to their roots: sex (I’ll be your special friend/someone to get you hot/leave you in a sticky spot), drugs (Johnny liked the fast lane with bennies and speed/racing through the wilderness no pause and no heed), rock ‘n’ roll (we keep bopping/life keeps rocking/it’s all up to you) and politics (Got myself twin daughters, got myself a spouse/I’m an oil man living in a big white house/gonna pump it, gonna pump it good).

Their influences (Kinks, Yardbirds, Lou Reed, James Brown) come through strong. They describe their dance-rock music as "age-defying." I’m curious about what the current generation of scenesters thinks.

You can listen to them on our New Music page.

I could write an essay about their past and present, but I guess PR skills come with age and they’ve clearly laid it all out here (saving me a lot of time):

Good luck on the road, guys. Have fun.
