Artist: Ben Mize
Title: Nantahala
Released: December 2003
Label: Self-produced
Notes: Ben Mize began his career playing with various bands around Athens in the early '90s, such as Daisy, Redneck GReece Deluxe and Marlee MacLeod. Through a couple of well-earned breaks, he played for a while with Cracker, and then landed one of the top jobs in the country as the drummer for the Counting Crows. After eight-plus years touring the world, Mize left the band to pursue family and personal musical interests back here in Athens. "Nantahala" is his first solo effort, on which he plays a good chunk of the music and provides the primary vocals. He is supported through the CD by an impressive contingent of Athens musicians, including David Barbe, John Neff, William Tonks and Vic Chesnutt. The CD is self-produced and can be purchased though Mize's Web site at benmize.com
